Natatorium Progress Report as of February 20

Substantial progress has been made since the DYC Foundation, in consultation with the DYC Board, began to lay the groundwork for the much-needed restoration of our Natatorium (the space housing our historic indoor pool) last year.

The Foundation and DYC Board agreed that this work needs to happen between May and September 2022 (while the outdoor pool is available), with the necessary funding coming from a blend of tax deduction-eligible donations by members and others to the DYC Foundation, and DYC club funds.

A careful plan of action is being developed for repair and replacement with the right materials, done by the right contractors, and funded from a realistic, cost-effective budget. To assist with the effort, the Foundation retained a highly-experienced restoration and construction professional to help guide and accelerate project planning, contractor recommendations, and budget development. We continue to refine this plan as the DYC begins to commit to selected contractors.

Fundraising began in 2021 to secure donations and pledges needed for this large and complex project. Results in 2021 met expectations, bringing Foundation funds available for the project to approximately $400,000. Now, additional fundraising is needed in the first half of 2022 though direct donations, events, and an in-person Gala scheduled for May 13, 2022.
